The only ambiguous character here is the figure riding the horizontal cross, neither angel nor demon, half-way between heaven and hell.
Although labeled as an illustration of William Blake, this giant canvas also evokes Michelangelo’s giant frescoes of the Creation of Adam and the Day of Judgement.
